Dehydration treatment in Patong

Dehydration is the quiet problem behind a great many of the cases we see in Patong. It is rarely the reason people come in, and it is very often part of why they feel so bad. Dehydration treatment in Patong is straightforward, fast, and makes a bigger difference than most people expect.

Why it happens so easily here

You lose fluid constantly in this climate, even sitting still. Add high humidity, which stops sweat evaporating efficiently so you sweat more for less cooling, and the losses add up quickly.

Then add the usual holiday pattern: alcohol, which makes you pass more fluid than you take in; coffee; long days in the sun; hours on a scooter with warm air rushing past; and drinking less water than you would at home because you are busy. Illness makes it worse again, since vomiting and diarrhoea drain fluid rapidly.

How to recognise it

Early signs are thirst, dry mouth, headache, tiredness and dark yellow urine. As it worsens you get dizziness on standing, a rapid pulse, muscle cramps, poor concentration, sunken eyes and very little urine at all.

Severe dehydration causes confusion, fainting, a very fast heartbeat and cold clammy skin. That needs urgent treatment. Urine colour is the most practical guide you have: pale straw is fine, dark amber means you are behind.

Who is most at risk

Children dehydrate faster than adults because they are smaller and lose fluid proportionally more quickly. Older travellers feel thirst less reliably, so they drink less without noticing. Anyone with vomiting or diarrhoea, anyone on diuretics, and anyone with diabetes needs to be more careful.

And anyone who has had a heavy night out, because alcohol dehydration compounds heat dehydration and the two together are how people end up on a drip.

Treating it properly

Mild dehydration responds to oral rehydration salts, which replace sodium, potassium and other minerals along with the water. Plain water alone dilutes what salts you have left, which is why rehydration solution works better.

When you cannot keep fluid down, or when you are too far behind for drinking to catch up, we use an IV drip. Fluids and electrolytes go straight into the bloodstream, bypassing the stomach entirely, and most people feel the difference within twenty minutes. A typical drip takes thirty to forty-five minutes.

Finding the cause, not just the symptom

Rehydrating you is easy. Working out why you were dehydrated matters more. If it is heat and alcohol, that is straightforward. If it is because you have been vomiting for two days, we need to know why you are vomiting.

Food poisoning, gastroenteritis, dengue and heat illness all cause dehydration, and each needs different treatment beyond fluids. The doctor examines you and tests where it will change what we do, rather than putting up a drip and sending you away.

Staying ahead of it

Drink steadily through the day rather than trying to catch up in the evening. Aim for pale urine as your marker. Add electrolytes on heavy sweating days, long tours or drinking days. Alternate alcoholic drinks with water. Keep a bottle with you on scooter trips, where you lose fluid without feeling hot.

Common questions about dehydration treatment in Patong

How fast does an IV drip work?

Most people notice improvement within twenty to thirty minutes and feel substantially better by the end.

Can I just drink more water instead?

For mild dehydration, yes, ideally with rehydration salts. If you are vomiting or severely behind, a drip is faster and safer.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the drip and what we add. Message us on WhatsApp and we will quote before you come.

Can you treat my child?

Yes. Children dehydrate quickly, so bring them in early rather than waiting.

Can a doctor come to my hotel?

Yes, we set up drips in hotel rooms across Patong day and night.
